Stephen
R. Fransen, MD, FACS, serves as Chief Clinical and Quality Officer for
Inoveon Corporation, supervising patient care delivered using the
Inoveon System and leading the company’s quality improvement
initiatives.
A company founder, Dr. Fransen led the design, implementation and clinical validation of the Inoveon System. He has more than 15 years of experience in clinical practice, health care administration and physician leadership. He served as the Section Chief of Ophthalmology at the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Medical Center, American Academy of Ophthalmology Diabetes 2000 Oklahoma Coordinator, a member of the Oklahoma State Department of Health Diabetes Task Force and chaired the American Academy of Ophthalmology New Education Technology Committee. He continues to devote a portion of his time to the care of patients with diabetic retinopathy, macular edema and other retinal disorders in urban and American Indian Community settings. Before accepting the position of chief clinical and quality officer, Dr. Fransen served as an associate director for the University of Oklahoma Center for Telemedicine where the Inoveon System was developed. He joined the OU faculty in 1990 and remains a tenured associate professor of ophthalmology in the OU College of Medicine. A board certified, fellowship trained retina specialist, Dr. Fransen earned his bachelor of science in chemistry and medical degree from the University of Manitoba. After internship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, he completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Oklahoma, Dean A. McGee Eye Institute and a retina fellowship with J. Donald M. Gass, MD, at the University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American College of Surgeons and member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. |
